The sound of his laughter echoed through the room, but his eyes remained cold and distant.
Waiting
They were all so stupid, going about their ordinary lives. Their meaningless, idiotic existences.
No one noticed as he sat in the shadows; minute by minute, hour after hour. Listening. Watching. Waiting.
Trains rolled in and out, businessmen and women boarded and exited.
Like a bomb, Time.
Ticked.
On.
He watched a young couple get engaged. A woman find out her grandmother lost a battle with cancer. A child dropping his ice cream cone.
Laughter rang out from somewhere nearby, and his own voice added itself to the cacophony of mirth. His eyes remained cold and distant even as he laughed for what was coming.
He hated them. All of them. Loud, disgusting, annoying creatures that only ever cared about themselves. The world was in pieces. Shattered.
He could make it worse. That was all anyone had the power to do anymore, wasn’t it? Widen the cut. Deepen the hole.
He would help them out. It was the least he could do. Humanity begged for freedom from this oppression. To be snuffed out. Those left in the aftermath would thank him.
A train pulled out of the station, and he knew it would be another ten minutes before the next one arrived. That was fine.
He could wait.
