WRITING OBSTACLE

Write a gossip session between two friends which suddenly turns very serious.

How can you use dialogue and speech tags to convey the change of tone?

My Rhymes

“Hey Amy, how was your day?”

Hey Ivy! Do you know that girl from work?

The one who’s eating apples with a fork?

You know I hate to gossip and you too,

But that’s not gossip, it’s the naked truth!

She ate a fish for lunch, isn’t that bleah?

Why do you laugh? Why do you laugh?

“Sweetie, you’re a bit strange. Why do you use rhymes when you speak?”

Bad habit, can’t help it!

“So, the girl from work…”

Oh yes! Today she acted like posessed!

She came to me and totally confessed

That she adores my new red shoes,

She leaned forward to see them and she had a bruise!

“A bruise or a hickey? You said she was hanging out with that guy…”

No! Just listen! It got worse from here!

She looked upon to me with so much fear

(I noticed that her hair was such a mess

And she had lost some weight, by eating less?)

She told me it’s okay, that they’re okay,

Didn’t believe her anyway!

I think that guy was just a mean abuser

Was just an ugly being and a loser!

“Was? WAS? Amy! What did you do!”

I…used her fork…the one she had at work…

And she saw through,

So had to kill her too!

(I’m kidding! I did not!)

“You’re kidding! You allmost fooled me…Amy! You almost gave me a heart attack! Why are you doing this? I mean, really…”

‘Cause you were laughing of my rhymes

I made you think I did those crimes.

Oh Ivy, read between the lines…
