Cousins and Friends

"Okay you two, we have finally landed in our new home, New York, so I beg of both of you, don't-Matthew!" Aaron shouted at his brother, who was already picking gum off the bottom of rails.

"What, it's gum!" Matthew held it up and put it in his mouth, immediately spitting it out. "Okay, I'll admit, that wasn't as good as I thought it would be."

"Exactly! That gum has been in another person's mouth before you!" Aaron growled furiously.

"Aaaannd, it was stuck to the bottom of that disgusting rail." Everly added.

"See, even Everly agrees! And she doesn't agree with anything!" Aaron shouted.

"Pipe down, Aaron, people are staring, gosh." Everly whispered.

"Then this bozo better stop eating gum of random rails!" Aaron pointed at Matthew.

"Ugh, he will. Let's just go." Everly pulled her brothers farther down the sidewalk by their sleeves.

"Wait, April said she would meet us here." Aaron tried stopping.

"I don't care. April can get lost for all I care. We should just call a cab and find our apartment." Everly said.

"Everly, come on. April is our cousin. You can't still be mad at her." Matthew folded his arms.

"I'm not mad, I just don't like her. Period." Everly let her brothers go.

"Well we're waiting for her. Whether you- oh hey, there she is!" Aaron exclaimed.

The three siblings watched April approach them. Everly rolled her eyes and stared at her phone.

"You guys made it! Congrats!" April waved.

"Don't get too excited." Everly said mostly to herself.

"Ignoring...that, since you are all here, I can take you to your new apartment." April told them.

"That would be lovely, 'Pril, thank you." Aaron smiled.

April turned around and guided them across the street and to the apartment building a few blocks away. Four strange people with shadow-shrouded faces greeted the short cousin.

"Yo, April, want to go to-" the one talking paused and noticed Aaron, Everly, and Matthew. "Who are they?"

April turned her head. "Oh, right. Boys, meet my cousins. Aaron, Everly, and Matthew." she pointed to each of them in turn.

"Are these your...friends?" Matthew asked. "And why is that one so big...?"

"Yes, they are friends. I might introduce you more formally later, but for now, we have to get you to your apartment." April walked up the steps for the door.

"Thanks but no thanks. I'd rather hang with Aaron's friends then yours any day." Everly rolled her eyes.

One of the guys stepped toward her. "Talk to her like that again, and I'll show you whose friends you'd rather hang out with." he growled.

"Nice try with the...whatever you were trying to do. Be protective? April, is this one your boyfriend?" Everly asked, though she didn't care.

April pushed open the door. "I can...explain everything later. We really have to get to your apartment now before dark."

Everly and the boy narrowed their eyes at each other as she followed April. Aaron had to pull her with them. The sibling's cousin led them up three flights of stairs and down a hall to a door labeled 'C21'.

"Your room, cousins." April said. "Here's the keys. One for each of you."

Aaron took his key and unlocked the door.

"This place is actually huge." Matthew's mouth gaped open.

"Not much bigger then our old house." Everly said sarcastically.

Aaron elbowed his sister and walked inside. Everly folded her arms and followed. Matthew had to be pushed by April after them.

"Kids, you finally made it!" Their mom exclaimed.

"How do you like our fancy new place, huh?"

"Shiny, huge, and AMAZING!" Matthew threw himself on the soft couch.

Everly sighed at her brother's spiratic behavior and went to pick her room. Aaron thanked April again and watched her leave. Their mom took the time to tour the two brothers around the house.

"Hey dad." Everly poked her head into his room.

"Oh, Ev, you made it! Are your brothers outside?" He asked.

"Yeah, I just came to pick a room." Everly told him.

"No need. Your mother and I already assigned them. Yours should be the one right across the hall." her dad explained.

Everly left his room and opened the one next door. The bed was situated against the wall closer to her. A smallish window looked out over the streets on the other side. A nightstand and dresser sat by the bed on the far side and a TV stand was against the wall to her left. As Everly looked around, she knew settling in would be super easy.
