WRITING OBSTACLE
Submitted by Maranda Quinn
Show a powerful emotion – love, grief, rage - in a quiet, everyday moment.
Instead of writing a dramatic and drawn out scene, think about how subtle actions and sensory details can carry the weight of the feeling.
Devil’s Tail
xo, Just a Girl 🩷
Building from the depths of my soul,
Like water to an oil fire—rage takes hold.
A fierce intensity from what others give,
Too kind now to speak what’s buried deep within.
I’ve heard all the excuses
For being treated this way.
Tick-tock, mind racing, anxiety grows—
Each second builds anticipation,
Ready to explode.
Curious, wondering—
Will I go to jail,
Or leave shambles behind in my wrath?
It belongs to me, tucked away for no one to see.
I never let go of what no longer serves me.
The pieces no longer fit back together.
Therapy’s no use—
Underneath it all,
There lies the little girl: abandoned, afraid,
Accepting scraps to feel no more shame,
Never good enough for a soul.
Crying. Alone.
God help you
When you light the fuse,
Or shake the devil’s tail—
He will wake,
And get loose.
