The proposal

“ I knew I’d regret it if I didn’t say it right now,” Jacob said, looking meaningfully into my eyes. “What, is something wrong?” I asked. What if he was breaking up with me? What if he found another girl? What if- “Lucy, Darling, please don’t stress,” he said. I always had been told my face is like a book, showing my emotions. He leaned into my ear and whispered, “You look absolutely stunning tonight, my love. So stunning it’s hard to believe you’re real.”

I felt my heart flutter. Jacob was looking at me as though I was the most perfect creature on earth. “Lucy, I love you so much it drives me insane. It shouldn’t be possible to feel this way, yet here I am,” he said. I wanted to cry. Nobody has ever acted like this. Heck, nobody had ever even told me they loved me. He got down on one knee. There was no way this was real. “Lucy Green, You are the best thing to ever happen to me. I can’t stand the thought of losing you. So, will you make me the happiest guy in the universe and marry me?”

I froze up. When Jacob told me he wanted to meet up, I thought he just wanted to hang out. But this? Never in my wildest dreams did I consider this. I looked down at Jacob, and the genuine love I saw answered my question for me. Nobody else had ever looked at me like that. I felt teardrops forming in my eyes. “Of course, Jacob. I wouldn’t want it any other way.”

I saw tears forming in his eyes as well. He slipped the ring on my finger, tears also on his face. He then kissed the ring. “Lucy, you have no clue how much you mean to me. I couldn’t miss my chance to make you mine,” He gently said. “Jacob, you really are the best thing that ever happened to me,” I whispered through tears. He leaned in to kiss me, and the world around us stopped. All that mattered was him. My Jacob. My fiancé. My forever.
