A scientist named Sam rocketed with his dog Jazzy to an unnamed planet. He built his tent and researched the planet to help scientists on Earth learn more. They had two weeks of supplies of food. His goal was to find water.

One day they travelled five miles east of the camp to look for water. They walked and jogged. Then they rested under a tree to have a picnic but found nothing. They returned to camp.

The next day they travelled west. There’s got to be water if there’s a tree, Sam thought. They found a puddle. They returned to the tree for the night and ate leftovers from lunch.

The third day they returned to camp for two days worth of supplies then they travelled south ten miles. There weren’t any signs of humans or animals. They walked farther and found a pond. They ran and played in the water. They tired themselves out and fell asleep in the grass.

The next week after playing in the pond they travelled north to look for more water. It took a couple nights and a day, but they found an ocean. The scent of salt floated in the air. They splashed around and saw birds flying to and fro. They spent one more night then began traveling back to camp.

At camp, supplies were low and Jazzy began coughing. They were scheduled to return to Earth in two days. Jazzy got worse and worse so Sam went to get pond water which was ten miles away. He ran most of the way and rested as he gathered some water. Then he walked most of the way back to camp. Jazzy died while drinking water. Sam was too late.

Sam radioed Earth to tell about the water and that the rocket would be lighter since Jazzy died. Then he travelled back to the tree to bury Jazzy. He took time to find a rock to place near the gravesite. He

The next day, Sam rocketed home. The rocket propelled itself so he could reminisce about Jazzy.

Sam landed in the ocean and floated on a life boat until a ship rescued him and brought him to shore. When he came to shore people held signs welcoming him home from Jazzy. The planet was unnamed so Sam was confused.

He walked into the headquarters and found his boss. “Why were people holding signs that said welcome back from Jazzy?” Sam said.

“When we heard that Jazzy died, many locals pleaded that we name the planet Jazzy. We voted and everyone agreed,” said the boss.

Tears flowed from Sam’s eyes. The boss gave Sam a tissue. “Thanks man,” said Sam.
