Abandoned

The crepuscular sky was bathed in blurs of warmth; saffron , gold and ochre mingled with the cotton candy clouds creating a celestial dance. The golden globe shone confidently in its fluorescent halo illuminating and coruscating a pathway to heaven. Screams of exhilaration from seraphic children was mingled with the rhythm of chatter and mutter. Burnt umber mud was smothered across the hands of toddlers creating cities. Everyone in their comfortable positions experiencing memorable moments.

Swinging back and forth, like a clock ticking, Kacie was enchanted by the zephyr which caressed her petite but angelic portrait. Specks of burnt sienna were sprinkled across her tiny nose, her cerulean kaleidoscopic eyes had flecks of hope and dreams, her gilded blond hair coruscated delicately onto her small figure and her cheeks were poisoned with a bright shade of vermillion.

She was immediately alerted by the sweet hum of the ice cream van, with children who scurried to their parents with euphoric expressions. Kacie took this opportunity to jump off the swing and beg her mother but something was holding her back. The sky was darkening; the once crepuscular sky bathed in a warm oozing glow was overpowered by the depths of a charcoal gloom. Not a single pinprick of hope yet thousands of pinpricks of gold were illuminating in the sky. She ran to her mother , but she disappeared into thin mist.

Kacie was alone again. 7 years later she still swings back and forth at the same very old park, like a clock ticking, waiting for the alarm, waiting for a sign of hope. But yet, she swings, waiting for her mother to come back and buy her the ice cream she never got as a child.
