A Child’s Heart

Long gone is the time

When dreams were made of cotton candy

Toys were made in a factory

Of gnomes and a chubby man, so dandy

Just a month before

I’d drop my letter in the mail post

Filled with my sincerest words

Of the wishes I cherished the most

The special night came

I was afraid to go to the chimney see

If Santa had read my letter

And brought the right presents for me.

‘Let’s see what this is!’

I said as I tore the present open

Oh what a wonderful joy!

It was the iron and table I had chosen

Innocence is lost now

As you grow, the bearded man is no more

And when they reveal this to you

A child’s heart aches, a child’s heart is sore

I look back now

It was such a long time ago

And just like the myth of Santa

Some of those you love also go.

Everything has changed

Where’s the magic of December?

Just memories I hold dear

All the innocent bliss I remember.
