POEM STARTER
Submitted by Margaret Sok
Did I cross the line...?
Write a poem or short story about a character going too far.
the lines we cross
I put my hand in yours last night
As we sat on the hood of your car
And I wonder, was it just me
or did you feel a spark?
As you reversed, and tried to park
You hand came up behind my seat
And I remember your scent,
A mix of cinnamon and pine,
Something so soothing and woodsy.
Did I cross a line last night?
Maybe in my mind
Because in my wildest fantasies
You’ve fallen in love with me too.
Today we have another date
To study of course
I’m your tutor,
But my, oh my, would I love to be more.
We’d be a sappy cliche,
High school sweethearts,
If I’d be allowed to say.
A classic trope,
Bad boy x good girl,
And how I’d longs to be yours,
In the moonlight, ask for a twirl.
On prom night, you’d get me a corsage
And then senior week would be ours
We’d write each other letters when we go away to college
Because phone calls were ‘old’
You’d keep a picture near your bedside table,
And I’d visit every other semester
Our life would be as lush as life in fables
I’d play opposite to your James Dean.
But as I float back to reality
Bonnie and Clyde didn’t make it,
Neither did Romeo and Juliet,
Oh how our love is cursed,
A story of Montagues and Capulets.
Only if our love did exist.
Would I cross a line if I said I love you?
Would I?
Or would you say it too?
A poem of my story which is right now circling in the vague borders of Pinterest boards and ChatGPT organizing my crazy thoughts!!
