The Crash (Part 1)

The sun shined brightly and the birds sang cheerily as a got out of bed. “Ugh…” I said as I remembered that it was Thursday. Why do I have to go to school? I thought, slowly walking to the kitchen. I made myself a sandwich for lunch and ate a slice of toasted bread with butter for breakfast.

“Hazel? Hazel! Where are you?” I asked in annoyance. “I’m right here.” She replied, sitting next to me. “AH! Do NOT do that again.” Hazel is my little sister, but we are twins. She says that I can be the older one. “Hazel, let’s go to school.” I said softly. “Okay, Fern.” She replied, mocking my tone.

We got on the bus, and I fell asleep while we rode. It was a one hour ride to school on the bus so I always fell asleep on Hazel’s shoulder.

I woke up to the bus crashing. “Hazel?” I asked, momentarily blinded by a flash of light. When I could see again, she wasn’t there. “HAZEL?” But she disappeared, and I was forced to leave the bus. My leg got injured in the impact of the crash, so I made some kind of makeshift crutches out of some tree branches and some cloth.

I saw a cat laying on the side of the road. It looked like my cat named Amethyst. She was a grey tabby with darker grey stripes, a white belly, and amethyst eyes. And this cat on the side of the road looked exactly like her. “Amethyst?” I whispered softly. “Is that you?” After a moment, she stirred and meowed weakly.

I scooped her up in my arms and kissed the top of her head. She mewed affectionately as I limped into the forest. There were plenty of branches there, so I didn’t have much of a problem making a kind of shelter. “I wonder if there were any other survivors.” I said to nobody in particular. Amethyst jumped out of my arms and scouted the area. Something about her seemed different, though. She had some kind of aura. Some kind of purplish aura around her and her amethyst eyes seemed like they were glowing.

She walked around and crouched by a leaf, that she gobbled up. “Amethyst! That was a leaf!” Then I was overwhelmed with a smell of rotisserie chicken meat freshly cooked and I looked around where it was coming from. I looked at Amethyst and saw that she was using some type of magic or some powers to turn a leaf into what tasted like chicken. I got my backpack and put it on. “C’mon, Amethyst! Let’s go see what’s going on in town.

When we got to the town, it looked as if something crashed into it and decimated everything in town. The store was intact, and I grabbed a shopping cart to get supplies. Everyone seemed to have disappeared when the crash happened. I technically wasn’t stealing if nobody was there to arrest her, and she couldn’t pay if there wasn’t anyone at the cashier, so she walked out with a full shopping cart. The self-checkout machines were broken, and nobody would get the money, and the ere was no way sh would leave her money just sitting there, waiting for someone to take it.
