If I Count The Ways I Love You
1. The way a child loves the friend they made on the playground-instantly and without hesitation.
2. Like a dog loves the one who raised him from a puppy-fiercely protective and loyal.
3. As one loves a friend they’ve known since grade school- endlessly and abundantly.
4. As a schoolgirl loves her very first crush- tentatively and oh so hopefully.
5. The way a man loves his first love- gently and softly as if she might break beneath his fingers.
6 the way the moon loves the sun- reflecting back only her brightest parts.
7. Like the sea loves the shore- roughly, taking pieces of it every time they touch.
7. As a bride loves their spouse- proudly declaring it to the entire world.
And loudly- shouting it from the rooftops.
And quietly- whispering softly into your hair with your head on my chest.
And tightly- clinging to your hand through the storm.
And softly- lounging lazily in out apartment on a Sunday.
And strongly- the last remaining pillar after a fire.
And resentfully- cursing your name even as I pray for your return.
And spitefully- refusing to let this be taken from me.
And painfully- watching your life through pictures.
And persistently- hoping beyond hope.
And selflessly- they say that if you love something you should set it free.
And in this lifetime, and the next, until the end of time.
I will love you so much and in so many ways that no book could ever contain them all.
