Embrace

I ran up to my Children's school after learning that there was an active shooter on their campus. I saw my son first. he turn his head to me and started to sprint as I open my arms to embrace him, I held on tight. I look over his shoulder and saw my daughter covered in blood. Please don’t be what I think it is.

I let go of my son and sprint to her. She's cover in tears and blood. The blood was everywhere on her body, the hand print on her white crop, the smear on her neck and cheek. My son being close behind me as we both ran as fast as we could towards her to feel her warmth and to see if she’s okay. She turns her whole body towards us, and runs up hugging us, like she never wants to let go.

My world was nearly torn apart.

My body starts to relax, but the fear has grown into something unimaginable. They should never have to go through this and the near factor of losing one of them makes me sick thinking about it. I grab her hand tight, and I wasn't ever letting go. I’ll never let them go.
