Endless Battles

Noel quickly thanked the Uber driver for his help reaching her destination. Turning around she found herself face to face with a large three story building on the corner of the street. Mrs Gwendolyn’s Orphanarium written in large metal letters across the top of the double doors at the head of the steps. Ten steps in all leading to two large dark wooden doors. As she looked up at the blue grey looking stone gargoyles all littered across the building’s roof edge. The door squeaked open, a tall blonde woman gave her a full smile. Motioning with her hand forward. Two large rolling luggage bags had been passed by the driver to her before she started up the stairs. “Welcome Noel to our humble family “ The woman’s bright blue eyes scanning the bags she’d hardly dragged up the stairs with a questioning glance. “Did you pack enough bricks to build your own room?” The woman let out a laugh before snapping her fingers. Out of the second door a large man sauntered past her. Grabbing both bags with huge hands. Easily pulling the up to his chest and moving back through the doors. “Thank you very much Mr. Jones” She smiled as she pointed toward an elevator on the first floor. “She’ll be on floor three, room 217.” Of course the interior looked like a fancy old hotel. Kinda like the great big one from the shining without all the creepy and crazy. Quickly the heeled woman was off across the red and gold carpets, just in time to catch the elevator. “Like I told Mr. Jones. Room 217 will be your new home. You’ll be rooming with Demi Gill, she’s only been here a few months but her last roommate was adopted.” The second floor hallway was much larger then expected. Almost larger then humanly possible. “The rooms must be tiny” She said without thinking as a laugh started in her guide. “I’m sure you don’t quite understand the gravity of witchcraft put into your new home” The woman nodded a bit to herself before pointing at the windowless walls. “The inside is much bigger than possible in the human world. Once you pass through the front doors it’s all it’s own realm” Of course she’d heard of how effective witchcraft was but this was some hogwarts type stuff. Nothing like the one level apartment style place she’d been in for the last four years, since her parents passed. “Mrs Gwen really built a magical place for all the shadow species.” Stopping with a halt the door read 217 in gold. “We’ll get situated, dinner is in two hours on the first floor.” “Hey Demi. Nice to meet yah” Noel’s southern accent was in full draw, but the room was pitch black. Two beds sat on opposite sides of the large room, one was occupied by a small ball of fur. Noel let out a low growl, of course mostly due to her distinct hate for animals of the feline variety. A pair of golden red eyes opened as the animal leaped into the air. Shifting quickly into a girl nearly half her height, with pitch black hair and eyeliner. Pale vampire like skin tone. With a black skirt that frilled at its edges, a black leather belt holding the skirt in place. Some sort of band t-shirt, and a black spiked color around her neck. Which of course caused her whole body to shiver just at its sight. “A shifter nice” Noel said seeing her two bags tucked against her new bed. “A Mandagot. To be precise.” The adolescent girl said in a nonchalant manner of correcting. Her accent definitely from some French country. “Near heard of it.” Noel said tossing her small cute Harry Potter themed loungefly backpack on the bed. Which had clearly been made earlier in the day. “Most haven’t. It’s a French thing. My father was one.” She stroked her hair a second. “He was a black cat thou, not a fox.” “Not gonna lie. Thought you was a cat. Sorry for the growl. Kinda rude.” “Werewolf then I’m guessed “ Demi let a faint smile lighten their meeting. “Your right” She through herself onto the bed and just snuggled the freshly washed sheets and folded thick cover at the bottom. “That’s cuz the temperatures gonna drop crazy tonight. Snows on the way” “Not much snow where I’m from” She chuckled to herself a bit. “I can tell by your accent “ Demi tried to say in a southern accent but it sounded terrible. They both laughed together. “We should head down to meet a few people” Their version of the hogwarts dinner hall was nothing more then an oversized cafeteria that looked like it came from a very high end hospital or buffet. Across the long three rows of tables a group of girls and one guy snickered pointing toward Demi. Saying something under their breath to each other just out of Noel’s heightened hearing. “Bitches all of them” Demi hissed. “At least we didn’t get caught with our tail up!” The leader of the group a tall dirty blonde haired girl shouted causing the rest of the hall to fall dead silent. “Tail up?” Noel questioned with a glance. “Her brother tricked me …. I’ll leave it at that” She turned a little red before busting into the slick black fox and swiftly jumping to the next table. Hissing before the girl lifted her hand as a gleam of red swirled across her palm. Demi’s fox flipped in the air with a squeal before crashing into the third table and turning back to her human self. “You had your chance Demi. Now it’s my turn” A devilish smile crossed her face as the pain spread across her backside all over her body. In the place she’d been standing stood a wolf nearly twice the height of the tables. It’s fur a silvery blue grey, a growl rising as she bared her teeth.
