Lemons, But I’m A Lime

Lelia look up at her mother, one who had previously looked at her at with disgust in her eyes. Lelia’s tears could fill at least ten bottles. Her mother stood above her, as if she was an all powerful being. She remembered what her mother had said to her.

“You will never amount to anything. “

Her own mother spoke to her as if she never wanted her. She had no say in what her mother wanted her future to be. She tried her very hardest to be what her mother tried to shape her future with. She tried to cut out the pieces of her life she claimed to wish she was never born. All the times she’d cried thinking about how she’d “never amount to anything”.

In her mother’s eyes, she wanted Lelia to be a lemon with all the other lemons, fitting in with society. However, in Lelia’s eyes, she believed that she wanted to be a lemon, fitting in with everyone and everything, but all she would ever be was a lime. She was a lime, green, different, and unappreciated.
