POEM STARTER

Submitted by Antaura Dawn

'The stars were what she liked most about the sky. Then, they started to fall.'

Write a poem based around this idea. You could include the line, use it as a central theme, or turn it into a metaphor.

Caretaker Of The Stars

She reached out to catch them - the stars

Gently pulling them to herself

Like a mother gathering her lost children

These delicate orbs, rising and fading

She had gazed at their mesmerizing glow

Wishing for too long and wondering if the tears she cast up in the sky had been forgotten

For these constellations spinning in her eyes

These silver night where she’d laid down her love

Had seemed to be the end

How she’d spent so long falling herself that she too was like a star

Waiting for someone to reach out and catch her

Only to see stars falling like the tear streaks

In a final mourning of the forever lost dream

And all she could whisper was goodbye
