She reached out to catch them - the stars Gently pulling them to herself Like a mother gathering her lost children These delicate orbs, rising and fading She had gazed at their mesmerizing glow Wishing for too long and wondering if the tears she cast up in the sky had been forgotten
For these constellations spinning in her eyes These silver night where she’d laid down her love Had seemed to be the end How she’d spent so long falling herself that she too was like a star Waiting for someone to reach out and catch her Only to see stars falling like the tear streaks In a final mourning of the forever lost dream And all she could whisper was goodbye
The world is burning But they tell me I’m wrong As oceans rise And kingdoms of plastic conquer more land
I am slowly choking While the world dies Trapped by my own knowledge Watching everyone waiting to see who will put out the fire first While they add more kerosene to the pile
In the very City I love Things are falling apart I pass people with beds of concrete While guns are being used like toys Our very streets are being avoided like death Going to school is a daily risk But staying home isn’t any safer
I guess it’s easier to ignore the problems Because its harder to do something about it Because everything is controversial these days You can’t even be kind without be biased Tell me how basic human rights is this complicated I cant even remember a time when people were just people Has our dignity been forgotten?
So maybe our world is sinking Under the weight of loss and destruction and war But maybe our world deserves it after all the evil alive and slithering Maybe we’ve broken a line Or have passed it so long ago we can’t even see it anymore Maybe our world on fire is meant to burn
But then how can I believe that when I see a single person with a littlest bucket putting out the largest flame These broken people with a shattered hope still trying It makes me wonder: Could we be a pheonix from the ashes? Or will we continue to burn until were nothing but dust in the wind?
In the heart of the city under neon lights Our paths crossed igniting endless nights We danced and we swayed, the sky was our stage Sweet kisses like fireworks you set on display Then morning light shone, how day felt so strange No wishes on stardrops, or you calling my name But come to the place held secret at heart For lovers found once here can now never part
Two eyes gazed back, my eyes Iridescent in the glass Is this who I am? The tears looked like dew drops Little rainbows arising in the light I would’ve thought my hair looked different That I would’ve been closer to the sky I gazed a little closer For I didn’t notice at first, The beauty hidden beneath Layer by layer, so preciously made Seen when I smiled just a little bit more Or let my forehead crinkle in thought, That I could look so beautifully me An innermost warmth rose up me Twisting and turning in joyful butterflies This is who I am What a gift it is to be true
Don’t forget. The shadows that slip away when the sun shines too brightly Or those invisible hands reaching out The ones who hide deep in shelters at night Or sneak through valleys of the outskirts The anonymous ones that float on towards oblivion
For each child holding a book Is wrapped up in their own mind Unaware of the world they live in Each parent’s view is set only on their stars Orbiting around their tightly kept heart As they hurry by this calling out Each person looks away Or is too blind to see in the first place While the pain of the forgotten continues on Going Unnoticed, Unnamed, Anonymous
For the lonely stay locked inside The guards of their own key The poor go their way For their cries fall on unbreakable walls The immigrants struggles on Their untold story quenched of its flame The refugees search for homes The lost wander far The depressed fall to tears The anxious are left alone And everyone person is caught wondering
When will they become a little less anonymous.
Do you know how to contain a storm Rising there within a teacup? Do you wonder if only you close your eyes Would it disappear? If you would force your tears away, tilting your head upright Or hide in your room at night funneling your pain into a pillow — to soft to truly take it Would the storm finally stop? For you hide within the worn pages of books Reading there in the coffee shop For this world is too much And the storm bubbles over As simple strangers pass by It’s to hot to feel anything else, Too blurry to see the world clearly It rumbles in your heart like a darkening sky Lightening flashes with worry And unreleased emotions crash, ready to flood your soul Some days it’s just all too much But you take a breath Because maybe not today — or even tomorrow But someday it will be ok And while you wait for the rains to pass You sit down and take a sip And watch your storm in a teacup settle to a gentle brew
The waves of green embrace the sun Lilting on the horizon in a golden glow While crisp breezes sway to the melody Soft and quiet.
Peaceful, Like a dancer caught up in her own world She twirls.
Pulling me up into her arms The leaves sway with me Guiding me across the universe And then gently back to my roots Deep within.
Through a thousand colors I have found myself. As the tender song of the earth Lays me down to sleep
Beyond a dream you close your eyes Let go of all those bright loose ties Just breathe in soft and fall in deep And say goodnight before your leap
Your tears so soft will turn to rain A gentle hum that soothes the pain For sleep’s here darling, no need to worry It’s almost night, no need to hurry
So lay down low, under mountains and stars And whisper that nights will always be ours For to the sky, past galaxies you’ve flown Sleep will come for dreamers enthroned
When you dream Do you dream of me
For as I sleep Your rosy smile Drifting through my mind
All I do is close my eyes close them softly and you’re there
In my coffee cup Cozy in my shirt In the clouds I see The stars up there at night
And so I close my eyes Whisper by your side I love you more each time
More than sky and fall Than the sea and wind Or the sun and earth More than mountains to the valleys low And all that there that we may verse
Just stay with me And close by me For all that it’s worth I love you Will always be first
