POEM STARTER

Compose a poem that starts with an idiom.

Idioms are common, sometimes metaphorical sayings such as ‘it’s raining cats and dogs’, and ‘love at first sight’. Which idiom will you use to set the theme for your poem?

Independent

You’re barking up the wrong tree

When you tell me that I need you

Cause I can tell you for a fact

I don’t need anyone but me

Don’t take this the wrong way

But I don’t want you to be a need

If you are still a part of my life

It’s because I want you there

You’re not essential for my survival

Just an added bonus in my life

Try seeing from my perspective

Maybe you’ll understand my view

I’ve been hurt by needing someone

But I’ve never been hurt by just me

I will never rely on someone else

Since I can do it all myself

Call me stubborn all you want

I call it independent
