I close my eyes

And with a prayer

I am dunked underwater

Seconds seemed hours

Peace and warmth flooding

My skull like a cherry bomb

Euphoria more fulfilling

Than any high

The voices washing out of my ears

Tears draining out from my eyes

Ashes spilling from my lungs

Slits fading upon my wrist

I look up to see a star

Shining down with a loving smile

ready to take my hand

And for the first time in years, I accept it

I ascend back into civilization

And although it seemed inconceivable

I am free, I am saved

And I have escaped from hell
