Another “Normal” Day As A Babysitter

I held Joshua in my arms as he slept in my arms. I sat on a rocking chair by his crib. He had been crying moments earlier. His cheeks are flustered from his tears, but he’s finally sleeping peacefully in my arms. I set him down in his crib and finally get some time to myself.

I’ve been working for this family for a month now. They’ve had other babysitters in the past, but it just hadn’t worked out for them. I am quite thankful to have this job. They pay quite well and I need the money to pay for my little sister’s medical bills. She’s been in the hospital for a while now and my mother can’t pay for her health all on her own.

My boredom slaps me in the face and I decide to snoop a bit. This family is quite rich after all. Where else would I be paid $40 an hour to babysit their baby from 4:00pm to midnight. I would never steal, but I would definitely look around at their beautiful artifacts. I see a door by their steps. It’s quite small compared to the massive doors they have all around their beautiful mansion and somehow that one peaks my interest more than anything else.

I walk towards it slowly as I did not want to awaken the little angel. I hold the handle to open it and I see steps. This is their basement. I look for a light switch. I am assuming they might have a finished basement with a pool table and a bar considering they’re the richest family in this neighborhood.

I finally find the light switch. I look all around me and I see that the basement is not finished at all and something is leaking from above. I go down the steps to see what I might find down there. As I turn, I see that the bottom of the steps has a huge space. It has a massive freezer, and I still assume there would be liquor in the freezer or ice cream.

When I opened it, my face went pale. There were bags upon bags full of human parts. One bag had many frozen blue hands, another had feet, and yet another had two heads in it, their eyes white and their mouths open. I gag and close the freezer very speedily and run back upstairs. As I sit in the couch to turn the tv on, the baby’s parents arrive home. They look very happy as they enter, but when they see me they look concerned.

“Hey, sweetheart. Are you alright? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.” The mother told me. She gently held me from my shoulders. I told her I had watched a scary movie and it scared me to death. “Oh, alright. That’s understandable. Would you like something to eat to calm you down?” She smiled warmly. I would have never guessed that they were killers.

“Actually, that’s ok. My parents are expecting me and they have some food ready for me.” I said with a soft smile. I tried not to look nervous as I spoke to them. I picked up my bag and got up. “The Baby is in the crib. I made sure he drank his milk and I changed him earlier before I was getting him ready for sleep.” They smiled at me softly.

“Thank you very much. He didn’t give you a hard time, did he?” The mother said. I could now see through her facade. It was hard to unsee it as I knew what they had done. I felt my heart beating fast. I really wanted to get out of there.

“Oh no, for most of the day, he was great. He just cried a lot as I tried getting him to sleep, but I got him to fall asleep. He was very well behaved today.” I said giving my most heartwarming smile. “Well, I must go before it gets too late. You know how my parents are.” They nodded and walked me out.

“Have a wonderful night, Sweetie. We look forward to seeing you again.” They both waved at me as I walked away. I got in my car and headed home. I sped through the neighborhood until I reached home. My adrenaline was on high alert the whole time, so when I got home, I was sweating profusely and breathing fast. I was just glad I was out of there. I knew I would not be going back.
