Psychology of Anxiety
I have a class on anxiety
Not how to cope with it
Or to cure it
Since we can’t
All we can do is
just try to understand it
Because apparently
according to my professor
to be human
is to be anxious
I’ve never heard a more true statement
But then he rearranged the words
You aren’t human
if you aren’t anxious
So we need anxiety?
Something that has tormented me
for most of my life
is a necessity?
Thirty minutes later
he said a quote that read,
Anxiety means suffering
Depression means giving up
no possibility, hopelessness
While my professor thinks
that has a narrow definition
of ‘suffering,’
it makes sense to me

(The quote I mention is by Charles Darwin. I actually do have a class called the Paychology of Anxiety, hence the title. It’s interesting that’s for sure.)
