Payment Always Comes Due

The roses sprouted from the ground, climbed the the sides of her burial vault and bloomed by the light of the full moon. For ten years she had waited, refusing to move on, waited for tonight. Reanimating her skeletal corpse still shrouded by the wispy remains of her diaphanous wedding dress had taken much of her remaining power. She sat among the roses for a few moments, gathering her strength.


Then she rose to her feet much more gracefully than her rotten appearance suggested she could. Ten years ago he had left her at the alter, disgraced. Ten years ago tonight she had stood in this very clearing and offered her soul to the wood wights in exchange for a gruesome and painful revenge against her betrothed.


She strode towards town. She swore she would make him pay and tonight payment was due.
