It’s the kind of mission that every astronaut dreams of. Ever since the new outreach program was first initiated It’s become a true honor to be able to explore the new planets and worlds beyond ours. So it was no surprise to Astronaut Martinez that she would be chosen to lead one of the missions. This was something she had been working towards for most of her career as an astronaut. She had heard the many stories of all the other discoveries her fellow colleagues and those before her found on their outreach mission. Many of the discoveries included new plant life outside of our own, the discovery of large amounts of water on other planets, and of course the trees. There were however those that had nothing to discover. But for Astronaut Martinez, she had hopes of finding something extraordinary during her mission. This was her moment. On the morning Astronaut Martinez was to take off ,she had an uneasy feeling that she just couldn’t get rid of. This was the first time she had ever felt this anxious before a mission. She didn’t want to bring too much attention to it for fear that she would be feeding in to its grasp. This was her moment and her moment only. She was not going to let anything take that from her. Two hours into the mission Astronaut Martinez began to feel at ease. She always felt strangely at home whenever she left the Earth’s atmosphere. This time was no different. It would take another ten more hours to reach the planet this mission was assigned to. The only thing Astronaut Martinez knew about this undiscovered planet, was that it may be uninhabitable. The only downfall to these extraordinary outreach missions, you don’t have a team with you. After the first outreach missions proved most of these unknown planets to be dangerous,it became apparent to the program that it was too risky to lose a whole team rather than just losing one. Some would return with great reward, while others didn’t return at all. To be extraordinary and to be remembered, you need to be able to risk it all. Astronaut Martinez knew the risk and was willing to pay any price. Upon landing on this new planet she immediately noticed just how naturally green it seemed to be everywhere. It was beautiful. She had never seen a place like this. She was more than eager to touchdown and explore what this planet had to offer. As soon as she landed she noticed the luscious rolling green hills that made the perfect path towards the different shaded green forest off in the distance. For Astronaut Martinez there was no stopping her, she was ready to explore.She followed the path towards the giant forest trees and immediately noticed what looked to be a tiny village not too far from sight. She could make out what appeared to be several little homes arranged variously between the trees. She couldn’t believe what she was seeing. Is it possible that this planet may be habitable after all? She had to find out for herself. With great risk comes great reward. Astronaut Martinez was about to reap her reward in more ways than none. From what she can gather at first glance, this tiny village looked like homes humans back on earth would live in. Could there possibly be human life on this planet? She needed to know now more than ever. She slowly made her way over to one of the tiny houses so as not to alarm possibly anyone or anything. Looking through the window she was amazed to see a kitchen that looked similar to ones on earth. Everything looked as if humans were living here, but there were none in sight. Before she could explore even further, she heard footsteps behind her. When she turned to see what was behind her, she was surprised to see a whole group of humans that looked very much like herself. They all stood there staring at each other in disbelief at what each of them were seeing, including Astronaut Martinez. No one said a word. Until one man ,very tall and statuesque,dressed in nicer clothing than most stepped forward. He must be the leader. “Welcome to Earth”, he tells her calmly. “But I’m from Earth, that’s not possible”, Astronaut Martinez quickly responds. “Hate to break this to you so soon. But that’s not earth. This is the real one , that’s just a simulation.”
