WRITING OBSTACLE
Write a scene that conveys deep emotion without using any dialogue.
You can explore any emotion you’d like, but try to focus on actions and body language of the characters. Remember, no dialogue.
Six Feet High
The room spins so I close my eyes tight which somehow makes the heartbeat in my ears louder. My face is hot and sweaty. My breath comes out quick and warm. But it’s my limbs that worry me.
My achy feet cling to the too thin rocks as my knees shake slightly. My legs hurt from hugging the wall so tightly. And my arms are in a similar predicament, except they burn so much more. Yet it’s my fingers that I know will be my undoing- literally. The joints are screaming at me as the tips are starting to go numb.
And to make matters worse, my bladder threatens to release itself all over the poor guy below me holding on to the rope keeping me safe, or so he says. I don’t feel safe though. I feel in pain, exhausted, and dizzy.
A sea of nausea rolls up through me, and I swallow it down. But I was wrong. It’s the sweat dripping down to my now vibrating legs making it hard to cling to the walls. It’s the slick wetness of my hands that make my numb fingertips lose their hold.
I slide off the wall and hit my head before falling backwards into the darkness of the sweaty smelly gym. I fall for all of a second, yet it feels like eternity.
