My grandmother always told me

That when someone dies

Think of it like they’re stepping next door into Heaven

It’s okay to cry because they are at peace

Try not to grieve the tragedy

Of my friend who passed way too soon

Leaving behind the biggest smile I ever knew

And her larger than life personality

Will be missed

Like the call I placed a couple years ago

Checking in to see how life treated her

To find out she played college basketball like we used to when we were younger and how you had a son

Who is loved by many

How proud I am of you

Now she will be remembered by many

And those who never got to know her missed out

Because tears were shed for her today

I found out my friend died from a car accident today. My heart is heavy.

Goodbye Shauna, I think you would have liked this poem. I will miss you so much. I am so grateful to have known you. Your husband and everyone who knew you will miss you terribly. You leave a hole in our hearts. ♥️ 😭
