POEM STARTER

Write a poem about an apology.

What is the apology for? How is it received?

Wonderful Water

__My heart,

A restless sea or a glistening lake,

Whirlwind rapids or a calm stream.

My heart,

Is like a body of water,

On the surface it glistens,

It listens,

To the calm flutter of birds,

And smiles at the azure sky.

Placid and tranquil,

Although sometimes disturbed,

By the occasional drowning flies,

Or a gale sweeping over it,

My heart,

Sometimes wakes,

Sometimes breaks,

Much like the surface of the water.

But deeper - deeper, toward the water bed,

It’s dark,

Dark like the corner of an attic long forgotten,

Dark like the twitching shadows in an alley,

Dark like the tenebrous witch-fingers of a crooked tree.

Leaves, stones, eventually sink,

And are met with the harshness below.

The harshness is hidden,

Hidden but still there,

The restlessness of raging currents,

Plastic bags,

Dirty rags,

Sinking - tangling - in the life below.

Things die under the surface.

My heart,

An angry current underneath the surface.

But, that is how my heart is,

I like it that way,

And, albeit the water runs deep,

So does my heart,

Happiness, anger, sadness, pride ready to falter,

All are swirling - dancing -  within,

Within this body of wonderful water.
