Fighting Fire With Fire
Anger.
It ignites you,
creating a forest fire
in your lungs.
It is impossible though,
to stop you once you
reach the point of true anger.
By that point,
you’re too erratic
to contain.
And the firefighters
must put their lives first
after all.
But then you die down,
and I can see
that you’re ashamed
of the burns
I am carefully wrapping
in the corner of our bathroom.
I see that you’re ashamed
of what you did to me.
But that’s okay,
I know what it feels like.
I’ve seen
that same fear in your eyes
as you saw in mine tonight.
I know what it is,
Anger.
