A Hierarchy of Light
I didn’t ask to be this way
This is simply what I was born to do
I got assigned an unfortunate job- catering to ungrateful you
Following you around is tiring
What a boring life you lead
I don’t ask for much from you but I long to be freed
I want a shadow family
With a herd of shadow pets
I want my own houses and a fleet of private jets
I can’t make choices
Dependent on your life
What a toxic relationship- full of one-way strife
I yearn to be untethered
Set me loose to bask and graze
Don’t like your personality, I’d rather have a holiday
I wish you were like Peter
Peter Pan was kind to his shadow
Likewise, I’d like a loan of free time to keep or at least borrow
You are selfish in your ways
Needing a constant bodyguard
But here I am getting paid peanuts for a job this hard
As every shadow agrees
I don’t care at all for light
I say turn off the sun so I can be free at night
We account for more than half the earth
Yet all we are is forgotten and shunned
Acknowledge the labor that allows you the luxury of freedom
Acknowledge your status
As it relates to mine own
You’re so blinded, you can’t figure out, you’re the one on the throne
