A Stroll In The Woods
On an early November morning a husband and wife took their 13 year old son on his first hunting trip. The family left their city brownstone and made their way to Sara, the mother’s family’s hunting cabin in Jaffery, New Hampshire the night before so they could get into the woods by the crack of daylight. As the family grabs their equipment they went into the woods covered in their favorite mossy oak apparel the husband, Steve, told Sara and their son Scout to follow him because he knew exactly where the big whitetail deer lived. Not ten minutes into their hike Steve tells Sara and Scout that he had too much coffee that morning, he had to urinate but the woman and son should carry on ahead and try to find a good spot for him to put the tree stand,Sara agreed. As soon as the wife and son turned down the trail Steve leaned his rifle against a tall pine tree and pretended to “take a wicked piss” as he normally put it. As watched his son run circles around his wife Steve slowly unzipped his rifle case loaded one bullet and then put it in and out of the woman’s head. Steve packed up his rifle, policed his brass, and then had to find and comfort a very scared and crying Scout.
Steve had found his son and told Scout that “he was going to have to be brave and this was going to be their secret none of his friends could know, neither pairs of his grandparents could ever know, and last but not least Steve asked Scout,” if he could keep take their secret to his grave even if the cops were asking around?” While wiping the tears from his eyes Scout nodded yes. Steve dragged Sara’s lifeless body off the beaten path so she wouldn’t be so easily found. Then Steve emptied all their snacks on and around Sara’s now blue body to hopefully get the animals to do what he couldn’t especially in front of his son. Then the two boys made it back to Steve’ s in-law’s cabin.
