An Unexpected Winter
Dina stood out of her red barn door. She wore a yellow mustard color jacket that made her pop from the snow and other children. There was not a child in sight, it was only Dina. The soft snowflakes flew on her coat and her face, and she giggled. But soon her face fell, knowing she was left out from the kids from school again. She sat down on the white blanket of snow and peered out on the Winter day. Dina’s cheeks became red, and it was time to go back. Her heart dropped, as she waited for hours and hours for a child to come play. But as soon as she opened the door, she heard a faint voice. “Oi mate!”it called. A little boy about Dina’s age was running towards her. “What were you doing just sitting there??” He asked. Dina blushed. “I didn’t have anyone to play with.” She murmured. “Then play with me, ay?” Dina smiled and picked up a lump of snow. She modeled it to a ball and threw it at the boy! He giggled and did the same. That’s when a new friendship began. For three more hours, they threw snowballs at each other, made snow angels, and made a snowman. They were sitting admiring the snowman when the little boy said, “Its really cold, ay mate?” “Yes mate.” She replied. She took his hand and dragged him in the barn. “By the way,” he said. “The name’s Sam. Yours?” She giggled and replied, “Dina.” They climbed up the big red chairs near the fireplace and slurped on their hot cocoa with whipped cream and marshmallows. Dina thought, “This is the best Winter ever.”
