City Of Rags
We live in a land where the footprints of ghosts linger
We can't erase our past with a snap of a finger
Unlike all the other famous cities out there
Happiness, they do not share
I know how you want to breathe that air
But those rich people don't care
So don't waste your life on this
Careless whisper of bliss
You know the right
You see the blight
But still, I see you packing your bags
To go to the city of rags
It hurts as you drive the car out of my driveway
I wish you would listen and stay
But I know that other mothers are watching their children go
Just like me, eyes blinded by winter snow
When they told me I couldn't believe it was real
The life someone could steal
You were dead, beside you the picture of a woman
Blonde hair, skin tan
I would find her
Sight a blur
Without you I am but a husk
But I know, there are other mothers standing above their children's grave
I'm not the only one
And you left your footprints right on my doorstep
She smiled as she picked up the roses
Looking up at the sun
