POEM STARTER

"She dropped her dress, and her inhibitions, at the door."

This is an example of a syllepsis, where the meaning of a verb (here 'dropped') is both physical and metaphorical. Write a poem that includes a syllepsis (do not use the example).

The Devil

He breaks doors and hearts,

in order to get in,

for he’s a thief.

He steals diamonds and time,

and use them as his own,

for he’s a liar.

He takes shiny things and control,

through painful situations,

for he’s a manipulator.

He loses the keys and his minds,

so nothing can touch him,

for he’s a madman.

Remember who you are,

when he breaks in and shatters

the walls, pretending he’s salvation!

Remember how love feels,

when he blames this pain on you,

innocent soul.

He wants glory and your destruction,

for he’s the devil.
