Beyond The Cave

“Shit, what is that?” Casey whispered to her friends.

Everyone froze, their eyes glued to the spot Casey was pointing to. Fingers trembling, Casey pulled out her phone from the back pocket of her favorite pair of jeans. She turned on her phone’s flashlight and aimed it at-

“It’s…an arm!” Millie whimpered from behind her.

Casey and her friends, Millie, Joe, and Aparna, often hung out by the caves on Huntington Beach. It was often the setting of local ghost stories and horror tales but no one ever took it seriously.

Joe’s face was pale while Aparna dashed over to a few nearby bushes to vomit. Casey leaned in closer to observe the grotesque body part. The arm, cruely mangled, only had 3 digits remaining with dried blood coating each fingernail. There was a ring on one finger, a ring that made Casey gasp in horror.

“W-what is it?” Millie screamed, making the others jump. Casey simply pointed, unable to move her lips. One by one, her friends discovered the ring. They all jumped back in shock.

Casey lifted her phone flashlight so that she could see her friends’ faces.

They had all recognized the ring, especially because they had just seen the owner of said ring yesterday. She had showed to them, eager to share her engagement.

Casey glanced back at the arm, her eyes teary as she whispered.

“It’s Ms. Johnson."
