Forgive No Matter What

They were in court, one with orange clothes, and one in a black suit. It was the man in the suits turn to stand and state his case.

“Mr. Smith, you may speak,” the judge announced. He stood up from his seat and observed the room. He took a deep breath and began his sentence.

“You have murdered my son, with no mercy whatsoever. Most people would give you no mercy in return,” he sealed his eyes shut and turned his head away for a moment to hide his tears. “But I know, that my son and God would want me to…forgive you of your wrong doings. Even though I might never see my son again, I have no idea what you’re going through, that would drive you to do this. You might not deserve forgiveness, but I’m going to give it to you because it is what the Lord has done for me everyday, and for you, right now,” the man sat down after stating his case. The man in the orange clothes began to rise with tears from his eyes.

“Thank you for your forgiveness. I don’t deserve it yet you gave it to me anyways. It takes a man of faith and love to do what you just did. I wish I could take back my actions but I can’t and I am so sorry for everything,” the emotions had come to him. His face became wet from his tears and his hands high up.

“If it is all right with you, may I have a hug? Please, you have changed my life and without you I have no idea how much I would have been lost.” The man with the black suit no longer could contain his tears and let them pour. He troddded down towards the killer, not in fear but in love. They hugged each other with compassion. The forgiveness was not deserved by either of them and especially not for the one with the terrible deeds, yet it was given anyways. No matter what anyone does to you, the forgiveness can change a persons life for the better.

“Thank you so much Mr. Smith,” the man responded. “I was expecting to go to jail for years with guilt, but you have taught me one of life’s most important lessons, which is to forgive no matter what.”
