Bump

The bookstore was quiet until ‘thud’! Two heads collided over the last copy of “Time and Other Tangents.” Filbert rubbed his temple, laughing awkwardly.

“Sorry! I didn’t think anyone else wanted this,” said the stranger, her voice warm, her smile a bright flash in the subdued lighting.

“Guess great minds think alike,” Filbert said, holding out the book.

“You take it.”

“No, really…”

“How about we share it? Coffee first, read after?” she suggested, surprising him.

Filbert’s heart raced. “Deal.”

Later, over lattes and laughter, Filbert thought: maybe time tangents weren’t the only mysteries worth exploring… maybe muffins next time?
