POEM STARTER
Poison.
Write a descriptive poem about something poisonous, and its effect on its target. This could be literal or metaphorical.
Poison
Poison. Poison.
Everywhere.
Your heart.
Your smile.
Your eyes.
Your voice.
I can keep counting.
Your face.
Your jokes.
Your hands.
Your touch.
Everything that spills from those beautiful lips
Brings a dirty little smile to my cheeks,
Makes my eyes shine—
Like I don’t know better.
Poison.
From the moment you started talking to me.
When our eyes meet in the hallway.
Every time you fix your hair and spot me.
But I don’t care if I die.
If it burns.
If it kills me slowly.
Your passion is worth the pain.
Every little thing between you and me—
Even if there’s nothing.
Nothing but my imagination.
It’s worth it.
It’s worth the pain.
Because still,
It’s you.
The reason I get up.
The reason I go to school.
The reason I dress up prettily.
It’s all you.
All that crosses my mind,
All that makes me smile,
Even in the darkest nights.
You are not love. Not yet.
But you are the thought that lingers,
The spark that flickers before the fire.
A whisper of something more.
And still,
Your smile is poison to me
