After Tears
Hands over my ears
Too loud, it’s all I hear
As I try and fight my fears,
Eyes squint, here comes the tears
“Hey kid, it’s just noise”
Who said that? I heard that voice?
Is that mine? I can talk inside!
Tells me it’s alright,
Have a look at the night sky
I let go, and to my surprise
I don’t meet my demise
Eyes wide open,
Awe replaces the fright
The lesson I learnt,
Pleasure and joy
Comes with a debt
It gets paid,
Whether you have it in your chest
It’s for the best
Does it mean nothing
To live in this light
Or is it a waste of time
To change your mind?
The pace quickens
Explosions of color
Fill my vision
The tears and frowns
Turn upside down
The path of positivity plus pain
Or negativity with comfort,
Completely covering your brain
This is what it takes,
The will to live,
Or be dragged by fate
You won’t find these lessons at school
Life will attempt to teach you,
Like a kid scared
By thunderous air
Barks bigger than bites
Listen
Life is there
For those who care
The little kid asks
At long last,
Will it get simple again?
Listen
