POEM STARTER
Write a Tanka, or a series of linked Tankas, on the theme of loyalty.
A Tanka is a short form of poetry with 5 lines: 5 syllables in the first line, then 7, then 5, then 7, and 7 syllables in the final line (5,7,5,7,7).
Together
You have stayed with me
Through thick and thin, tears and grins
You have held my hand
Squeezed it in comfort and love
Pulled me out of dark and foul.
You know my worst sides
And have bared your own in deep
Solidarity.
We are neither of us pure
Several, the backs we’ve stabbed.
And yet we stand strong
Alone, but for each other
Facing a cruel world
In condescension. Remain
Hands clasped, black hearts intertwined.
