WRITING OBSTACLE
Describe an object’s temperature without using words relating to tactile senses.
Tactile senses, or the sense of touch, are usually what we use to identify whether something is hot or cold. Without this sense, how else can we recognise and describe temperature?
Hot Water
The kettle is opaque but the rhythmic sound of the bubbles accumulating in the vessel gives proof that the water is ready for pouring.
The loose leaf tea rests in the teapot as if eagerly awaiting the bath of the boiling water. Alchemy is around the corner.
As the water begins to exit the kettle, the steam rises into the air. Not like smoke, but like the song of an exhale being breathed out.
Water fills the teapot instantly softening the once hard and dry texture of the tea leaves and jasmine petals.
Hot water doesn’t always have to burn you, it can in fact soften what is hard and dry within you.
