POEM STARTER
Submitted by Margaret Sok
“You’ve come back, but I no longer need you.”
Write a poem or short story including this line.
Cold
Stuffy foggy head, worse than a million hangovers for sure
Don’t know where, I picked up this bit of nasty cold so sore
Dreaded trip out in the nonstop rain and thunder, I step out
My leaky boot slid right into a deep mud puddle, I shout
Driving into the night, with my steamy foggy windshield and mind
Almost making it to the drug store, where the pharmacist is kind
Getting all the salves, drops and pain meds, I travel back home
Boiling my favorite cup of tea, lemon and warming me to the bone
For the next two days, I drank and ate and sleep somewhat like a bear
I shut myself away from work, and TV and life that I couldn’t even hear
By the weekend I felt like myself again, going out and getting fresh air
Going for a short walk with the dog, and stretching legs with flair
Going inside due to the fact, that it started to rain and storm once more
I started to sneeze and my nose started to run, I don’t want this anymore
“You’ve come back, but I no longer need you.”
