POEM STARTER

Submitted by Feywild

Write a poem on the theme of sacrifices.

It could've been you

The wooden bridge is unsteady, a storm approaching

I look left, the forest looks back at me

I hear the trees rustle, inviting me

into the fog, the uncertainty, the unknown

A warm breeze caresses my cheek to my right,

and there you stand

With your green needy eyes, your gaze burning me

Comfort and familiarity painted on your face

Decision weighs on my chest, heavy

My heart aches for what could’ve been

My mind reminds me of what is not

My soul tainted of hope

Heart racing, I turn left, dragging my feet

As I cross the bridge, it falls behind me

Leaving you

It could’ve been you

I love you

But I choose me
