Fin de siècle

I knew then it was the end Not as the walls Crumbled to dust Regime capitulated Overthrown Not the fire nor the fear nor the lies Silence grew deafening In anticipation Perilous impermanence Recklessly, slash and burn What preceded In this new era Glorified with senseless words Poetry depicts the landscapes I once cherished Peace Twilight Sun dipped down underneath my feet Moon tipping over My head full of dreams Fulfilled? Ephemeral They craved a destiny Out of reach Untouchable realms They sought to inhabit Be careful what you wish for.
