“Last Call for Flight 128, to London. Anyone boarding the plane please go to gate 3B, again this is the last call for Flight 128”.
Glancing down at the boarding ticket in my hand, I suppose it’s time to go. Looking around, hoping to see the petite woman that I know and love, but all I see is people rushing to the lines or waiting by the screens in hopes for their delayed flights to change.
Gripping the boarding ticket, I shake my head and give a mirthless chuckle, “guess I wasn’t the one leaving this time”. A lone tear trails it’s way down my pale skin as I realize that I was a fool to believe that she’d join me to a new beginning, to our new beginning.
Not bothering to wipe my tears away, I roll my black suitcase and make my way towards gate 3B. There’s only a few people left that are boarding the plane. There’s so much chatter amongst these people, yet all I seem to hear is her voice calling my name, “Ron…. Ron”.
“Ron!”, her voice seems to get louder and closer. Looking around all I see are faces of people who rather be miles upon miles away from this airport. “Sir, excuse me but can you give me your boarding ticket. You are holding up the line and we are on a tight schedule”, a middle aged man with a deep scowl that seems as it’s been permanently etched onto his face.
“Erm, yeah sorry about that”, I hand the boarding ticket to his outstretched hand. “So, uh… how’s your day been?’ I ask in a failed attempt to lighten this man’s mood, I’m faced with a deeper scowl before a forced smile shines on the attendant’s face. “You may board the plane”, ignoring my question as I’m gestured towards the doors.
Getting my ticket back, I give a curt nod and make my way towards the doors.
“Ron, wait!”
I freeze in shock as I hear her voice, this time it’s loud and clear.
“I hope you don’t turn out like the rest of your family, they always seem to look for trouble’, she says sternly. “Trust me that’s the last thing I’d want to do’, he mutters under he’s breath.
He watches her as she nods her head and walks away, not without giving him one last stern look, as if he’d do something dangerous at the moment.
“I hope you have a pleasant day”, is all she says as she turns and walks away, her robes swishing as she heads towards her office. He watches as students scurry away from the path of their headmistress, looks like nobody wants to get caught while she’s in a foul mood.
Bloody hell, it’s not even my fault, I mutter as I turn, when I hear the sound of the office door click shut.
It’s not like I’m trying to follow in the path that my brothers paved when they went to school here, I’m not going to be in the shadows. Not today or ever, I want to make my own friends and write my own future, even though it seems a bit far fetched since anything that I do won’t feel special since they’ve already done so much. I may be the youngest (well second if you count my sister) but I’ll be damned if people think I’m just another shadow of my brothers.
