The Gentle Zombie

I was in my room making my Halloween costume when my light flickered. I heard rhe slight rumbles of thunder and the soft pitter patter of rain starting to fall on my roof. There was a loud clap of thunder and then the light winked completely out. I dropped my felt and sewing needle and put my hands out searching for my phone. Once i found it I quickly turned on the flashlight to illuminate my darkened room. I placed on my nightstand, flashlight up. I walked over to my window. I lifted the blinds and opened the window to listen to the storm coming. I was looking out the window when i saw a person walking with a long black coat on and holding a black umbrella. The person was wearing very thin green gloves. Then I realized they weren’t gloves. They were hands. Old wrinkly ones. The the being turned to look at me. It was small male zombie with a bald head and pale green eyes that looked as though they were blind. Like his hand, his head was also green. You couldnt see his neck bcause it was covered by a long black fuzzy scarf. I jumped where I was standing. He looked terrifying at forst glance but after a few seconds of him looking at me I soon realized he was different. He had a kind and soft expression on his face. Thier was a small blue butterfly on his right hand. He smiled at me, waving his free hand. I smiled and waved back. It was Halloween night. I was leaving another house, my pillow case now a little more full with candy. My friends and I were about to walk up the steps on the next house over when I spotted him again. He was still wearing the same outfit, and even though it wasn’t raining he still had his black umbrella over his sholder. My friends had knocked on the door and we in the middle of saying Trick or Treat. But i was smiling at the okd fella like it was a long lost friend. The blue butterfly was now flying around his shoulder and the gentle zombie didnt seem to mind. He raised his green old wrinkly hand again and gave my another wave, a smile creeping up onto his face. I smiled and waved back. My friends were walking down the steps when they saw me. “What in the world are you doing? Who ar eouu waving to?” They said piering over my should, squinting into the night. “Doesn’t matter.” I said putting my hand down, “just an old friend” “Now come on! We still have plenty of more houses to rade. I mean go to” i said as my friends laughed, running down the street. I turn around one more time to see the gentle zombie wave to me before winking and vanishing into the night. I smile to myself. “See you next time, brother.”

Gone

I woke up to the smell of smoke. I wipe my tears away from my face. I had another nightmare of my parents. They had died 3 months ago due to fire magic. No! I thought not again. But it was too late. The house was on fire. I jump out of bed and run to Nox’s room. “Nox! Get up! We have to get out of the house! Its burning!” I shout shaking him. Once he was up we ran to Evie’s room. But with all the scraming I did she was already up. She looked terrified and she runs to me and held my hand as we ran out of the house. We were all catching our breath when Nox gaspee and said “The family picture! I fogot it in my room!” And sprinted back into the house. “No, Nox! Come back!” Evie screamed and tried to follow but i stoped her with my arm. “Evie, stay here,” I said sturnly, then rushed into the house again. I heard a scream. “Halo!” “Nox?! I’m coming, don’t worry! Just stay where you are!” I yell, running up the stair. I burst into Nox’s room to find him getting licked by fire. He was unconscious clutching a framed picture in his tiny arms. I scooped him into my arms and look back out to the hallway. It was entirely blocked my flames. Then I looked out the window. I saw Evie screming into the fire. But she wasnt very small and I could hear her. So the window was close enough to the ground that I could jump out and hopefully wouldnt die. I carefully placed Nox on his bed and quickly opening the window. “Evie! I can’t go back though the door! Its blocked. Do on the count of three, im going to jump iut the wondow with your brother, ok? And I want you to make a light net to catch us! Cna tou do that?” She didn’t speak but I saw her nod her head. I ran and grabbed Nox in one arm and used the other one to climb out the window and hold on the the top of it. “Ok! 1 . . 2 . . 3!” I jumped. All I can see is darkness and the light from behind. Then a new light came from underneath me. Evie’s net. It carried is sloly and safely to the ground before disappearing. Evie runs toward us. “Is he ok? What happened?” She questioned worringly. I gave her a coforting smile as I set Nox down with his head reating on one of my legs. I use my free arm to calm Evie down how had started crying. “Everything is ok. Its ok. We’re fine,” I say stroking her hair. Evie’s fae softens and she curled on the other side of me, reat her own head on my other leg. Her heart beat slowed down she fall aslee due to lot of magic being used in one time. I take a deep breath. My eyes drift back to the house that was well up in flames. Relizing that the house full of memories was burning up, I cried. While i was crying I thoght. But wait when i ran thiught the fire to save nox it didnt burn. And the fire started right as I was having a nightmare of mom and dad burning in fire. Did I cause this?
