Hello, Mr. Reaper! Are you here for me? I’m all ready to go- I do decree! Packed all I need For this dismal trip Wherever we may end
On this inter-dimensional starship I’ll gladly amend, All the wrongs I’ve done And all the good ones too! So long as I can come along And be at peace in the airy song Of wind whipped to and fro
As we fly off this planet to somewhere new And maybe not as blue As this old world has made me I hope to hurriedly cut-through All the unnecessary good-bye’s To save a few woe’s of those Who never quite knew Where my head was at or where it might be off to
Tell me, Mr. Reaper What is it like? The after of this life Is it as everyone says? Wondrous and gold With all your lost loved ones to hold? Will I now know Why everything was just so-so, And what it was all about? All my questions answered With no reasonable doubt Of what anyone’s intentions are Or who they may really be On the inside- the door is ajar And I can finally see The light in all those souls That struggled just like me
I can almost feel the bright shine of the sun as we fly near That powerful sphere Whom I can hear- The king of our Milky Way The sound of which A thousand burning flames Seems musical at times May we, together, sway?
As we continue to ascend I want to touch the stars To feel their tingling glow On my finger tips and throw Them winding through Saturns’s rings Like a cosmic game of ball Why must we all Pass away just to experience Such extraordinary things?
Though I may miss my place And the people that I admire I can not stand to wait One more moment on this plane Feeling so incredibly inadequate So I do request To simply retire And continue our journey on To arrive in the beyond Shall we go now? Lest, we are late and miss the opening of the gate
As our sun rises on the eastern peak Morning dew sprinkled around sparkles A dazzling dance of light Announcing the morning’s arrived The sky is painted in a myriad of new hues A perfect mix of orange, pink, purple, and blue
the birds welcome the new day Singing their ever-present chords As it rises through the air Waking those still deep in sleep Signaling the night creatures To end their hunts And crawl into their dens for rest At last, the night is over…
Beyond the map, where legends dwell, I ventured into the unknown
Where the heart beat rises, breath quickens, and perspiration glides smoothly off the skin
Traipsing through the lush meadows of before to find the somber darkness of a damp cavern
The slimy walls greeted me with abhorrence, clearly hoping it’s undesirable nature would be enough to ward off wanderers like me
It didn’t…
Still, I ventured farther within its ominous depths until the light behind was completely extinguished
Like a gnarled, cryptic hand reaching out from the murk tantalizingly raising a finger to beckon me forward
My adrenaline surges refusing to let me give up, I will find my prophesied prize
The pace quickens until I’m in an all-out run, how much farther can one cave go?
I suddenly hit a hard, unforgiving surface head-on which knocks me off my feet but my head free of the clouded obsession I’ve held for so long.
As I sit on the damp, cold floor I wonder why I’ve came all this way on the simple promise of an unclaimed, long forgotten treasure
Maybe I no longer needed whatever the cavern held; whether it be gilded riches, uncontested power, or knowledge even the most educated scholar would covet with greed
As I shake my head and turn my back to this drab place an unimaginable truth comes to light
The treasure was more than a mere materialistic dream
The treasure was understanding what I possessed all along was enough…

A wandering autumn leaf Twirling through the air Being carried by wind
It’s time may be brief It’s color like a warm, burning flare Blasted through the sky, it’s silhouette thinned
The detrimental squall - a thief Taking the very essence of the thing with no care Until the bits that remain are scattered around and unto the earth - descend
What seems silent but wreaks havoc in the mind The calm, stillness of a desolate grove.
What could be lurking within? Perhaps, peaceful creatures simply wishing to survive? Or maybe those who wish to take away the life of those aforementioned?
Though it seems quiet, if you listen closely there is a million beings singing their songs in hushed voices. Scattered through the timbered-scape, trying to avoid life-threatening confrontations.
But still singing, nonetheless. A song filled with hope and familiarity Intending to reach the ears of others like them. A shout-out through the trees, telling their kind “I’m here! Please find me!”
But will they be found by friend or foe? By prey or predator?
Perhaps it is better to stew in a solitary silence…
