I can do it I can let go I can try Just for tonight “Place down the apple,” You say. “You were doing so well, What number is that one.” I bite my lip And toss the apple Into the Trash “IT DOESN’T MATTER!” I yell, pushing away from you. “I can’t do it, I can’t stop.” You do not answer Only grab my shoulders And look into my eyes Deeply “I believe in you,” You say, voice clear “You can do this, You can be brave.” I sniff Tears bloom from The corners of My eyes “But, whenever I don’t,” I say, a rock lodging into my throat “I feel so empty, I need something to fill me.” You pat My shoulders And bring me Into your arms “I believe in you,” You repeat, “You were doing Fine before.” I push away And somehow A tart makes it Into my hand “I-I need to eat,” I stuff the tart into my mouth, “You don’t understand! You don’t know the hole inside of me!” Your eyebrows crease together But instead of healing back At me You smile “I know,” You grab my hands, “But I know you can do it Be brave, my darling.” _Be Brave…._ *** _(I’ll let you figure out what this poem is about in your own; I mention it a lot when I write my poems.
