I expected her to text,

as she always does.

She sent me a message,

I’m afraid to say I didn’t reply,

I was busy reading,

with my trained little eyes.

I was reading a novel

about someone who’s time

was slowly coming to an end.

And, wow, here’s the part

where I wrecked my best friend…

When I didn’t reply,

I was reading a stupid book,

because I was a teenager

I expected her to complain

about a boy or a teacher,

but I didn’t expect her pain.

Hours and hours later,

I remembered she texted.

I would’ve replied earlier,

but I didn’t realize

I couldn’t even come up with

a reply

to something

so personal.

When she had been texting,

it was the last time she would

she was already resting.
