a handful of friends
asked me to paint
for them as Christmas gifts
and they asked me
to paint monotone
using the color
of their souls
and when i finished
the five paintings
they were all different
colors
john was red
steve was green
laurie was yellow
tom was blue
chris thought he was purple
but was really grey
and i wondered
what i was
