Slip

I walked through the cafeteria with a lunch tray, minding my own business and looking for a spot to sit when I slipped.

Apparently I had walked right past a floor-is-wet sign.

I landed smack on my butt, my cheeks flaming red as I tried to stand up. But, of course, I slipped before I was even standing.

I heard the cafeteria go silent as they watched me before bursting into laughter.

I closed my eyes out of pure embarrassment until I heard the voice of Marcus, my crush since fourth grade when he held a funeral for a firefly, telling me to give him my hand. I hesitantly reached up and he pulled me to my feet.

I thanked him and continued with my day, the happiest I’ve been since fourth grade.
