War

The frightful sounds of ammunition leaving high caliber weapons punched my ear drums. I carried all I could manage to grab before the bombs went off destroying everything it touched. A dark cloud of smoke impaired my vision . the pungent smell of sulfur and gun dust stung my nose. From behind me I hear a woman loudly screaming after being crushed by the walls that used to provide shelter. The walls that were build to protect, destroyed instead. I turn around as I ran. She weakly outstretched her hand, begging for help. The sight was too much I turned around and continued towards the one place I thought was safe. I book it through the tree line . In the distance I heard another whistle and my eyes widened in horror before I closed them bracing for impact. Another loud BOOM violently slammed me to the ground knocking all I carried in front of me. They invaded us when they promised they wouldn’t. My hand clenched to a fist. They said it was inhumane and animalistic, for a army as power as they were to slaughter people who were far inferior to themselves. Heavy tears dropped from my eyes. I look in front of me. A picture of a distant life stared back. Me, my mother, sister and father all happily smiling at the camera. Our faces not worried about dying or anything like that. We were safe. I slammed my fist against the mud. “WHY DAMN IT! WHY MUST GOD BE SO CRUEL!” I screamed at the sky. I dragged myself up. A strong heat send waves through my body from my leg. I turn around seeing a deep gash, blood flowing out from the wound. It took every fiber of my being not to collapse right then and there. Maybe I could’ve seen them again. This life couldn’t be better than what’s waiting on the other side. We’re they smiling then? When they were promised that helping those devils train would ensure they’re safety. They lined them up outside the town and had their men a couple yards in front of them guns ready. They shot them dead and then some. I saw the whole thing and had to hold my mouth shut from screaming every curse I could muster. I limped forward my old boots sunk into the mud until I eventually made it to the tree. I knocked on it three times and it opened, a large gate served as a portal to the inside. I fall in not being able to support myself anymore I passed out.
