Insomnia’s Shadow
I lie in bed,
In complete darkened dread.
My eyes cannot close,
Even when in a sleeping pose.
The warm blankets do nothing
To hide her from coming;
Insomnia nips at me
Making sleep a no guarantee.
Time ticks
As she smiles and pricks
My very mind
With distaste of all kind.
How long the night feels
As I lie through these ordeals.
If only I could escape
Insomnia’s shadow.
